Come Ride With Us!

The Spokane Bicycle Club is a recreational and social organization that promotes lifelong cycling

for fun and health.

We pursue our mission through:

  • Organizing group rides that appeal to riders of various skill levels and covers a variety of terrains and distance
  • Organizing multi-day cycling tours
  • Advocating safe cycling through sponsoring and supporting cycle-positive events and activities

as well as involvement in local, state, and national transportation and cycling organizations

  • Educating riders about safe, enjoyable local cycling routes
  • Educating members about cycling innovation, legislation, as well as showcasing cycling adventures and events through monthly meetings and a bimonthly newsletter
  • Providing social opportunities with fellow cyclist

The Spokane Bicycle Club currently offers 7 regular group rides per week during our cycling season, usually mid-March through mid-November depending on weather conditions. You can find our rides and sign up on the Meetup app. We also offer Club Group rides during the Winter months and adverse weather days on Zwift. You do not have to be a club member to join our rides but if you do enjoy our rides, we do encourage you to become a member.

Our regular ride schedule is as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning to afternoon for all cyclists. Friday mornings is a women's only ride. There is also a Thursday evening ride for all cyclists.

Our rides vary in location, average speed, distance, and difficulty. While most rides are on paved surfaces, we do offer an occasional gravel ride which will be stated in the ride description on the Meetup post. Please make sure you read the individual ride description on every Meetup ride thoroughly to make sure it is appropriate for you. You are welcome to use any bike you wish even E-bikes as long as it is in good, safe working order. Helmets and signing of our waiver are required for all SBC rides.

We look forward to cycling with you!!!

General Meeting, April 20, 6:30pm St. Marks Lutheran Church. Ride With GPS Training

Our April General Meeting is coming up next Monday April 20th at 6:30pm at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 316 E 24th Ave, Spokane, WA 99203. I am excited to show you how to work with Ride with GPS, Meetup, and how to get those routes on your phone or navigation device. Over this past year, there have been changes to the Ride with GPS platform (mostly for the better). The main focus of this training is to get you to be able download our routes from a meetup event so you can navigate on your device and to hopefully answer your questions. Although not required, it is best to be prepared before you attend. The following is what I suggest for the smoothest experience as we will all go through downloading a route live.

Here is a quick look at what we will cover during the meeting:

  • Finding Our Rides: A brief look at where to locate our upcoming schedule.
  • Ride With GPS Overview: What the app is and how to use it.
  • The Main Event: Step-by-step instructions on taking a route from the Meetup app and sending it directly to your phone or bike device for turn-by-turn navigation.

To make sure the presentation goes smoothly, please try to complete these setup steps before you arrive:

Step 1: Download the Apps

Get these three apps on your smartphone:

  • Meetup (to view our ride schedule)
  • Ride With GPS (to view the route maps)
  • Garmin Connect or Wahoo (only if you use a bike computer)

Step 2: Prepare Your Logins

Create an account for any app you do not have set up yet. Please write down your username and passwords and bring them to the meeting.

Step 3: Link Your Accounts

If you plan to navigate using only your phone, you can skip this step. If you use a bike computer, connect it to Ride With GPS so the routes can sync automatically:

1.   Open the Ride With GPS app on your phone.

2.   Tap "More" in the bottom right corner.

3.   Tap "Settings", then tap "Connected Services".

4.   Select Garmin or Wahoo.

5.   Enter your password for that device and tap Authorize.

Step 4: Join Our Ride With GPS Club Account (You need to be a paid Spokane Bicycle Club member to join our account. You do not need a paid Ride With GPS account; the free one will work).

Click this link to join our group: https://ridewithgps.com/clubs/10654-spokane-bicycle-club

Log into your Ride With GPS account and click "Apply to Join". We will verify your paid Spokane Bicycle Club membership and approve your request. This step grants you free access to the premium turn-by-turn navigation features.

Bring your phone and your bike computer to the meeting, and we will handle the rest of the navigation steps together.

See you there,

Terry
